Humanoid robot smashes Usain Bolt’s 100m record at Beijing’s ‘robot Olympics’

A humanoid robot has shattered Usain Bolt’s 100m sprint record at the second annual World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.

Having trailed in second for most of the race, the Team Tianzhuo-developed bot ate up the last 20 metres to take gold, clocking in a time of 9.39 - 19 hundredths of a second quicker than the world record set by Bolt at the Berlin World Athletics Championships in 2009.

This year’s games featured 2,056 robots from across the world, competing in events including boxing, football and high jump.
