Around 74 lakh voters in Karnataka are facing difficulties under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, socio-political organisation Jagrutha Karnataka said on Sunday (August 23), demanding that the exercise be extended by six months and that the Election Commission take steps to ensure that no eligible voter loses the right to vote.

The organisation said its assessment was based on its own survey and publicly available data. According to it, the figure includes around 15 lakh eligible voters under the Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead and Others (ASDDO) category who could be excluded from the electoral rolls, around 44 lakh voters facing notices over “logical discrepancies” and unmapping status, and lakhs of remaining new voters who would now have to seek inclusion through Form 6. While more than one crore voters have been marked under ASDDO, Jagrutha Karnataka claimed that around 15 lakh among them were “genuine and eligible” voters who could be excluded.

Jagrutha Karnataka said it had developed software to help voters check whether their names appeared in the ASDDO list and would launch another tool by August 27 to help voters check whether their names appeared in the draft list.
