The Industries & Commerce Department has initiated steps for developing six sector-specific Industrial Parks (IPs) under the Government of India’s (GoI) Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA).
The State-level process, including the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs), master plans and market demand assessments, has been completed and the proposals submitted to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) for further action, according to official sources.
The six IPs are the A.P. Space City, spread over 1,000 acres in Tirupati district; A.P. Drone City at Kurnool (486 acres); Tekulodu Aerospace and Defence Park in Sri Sathya Sai district (500 acres); Makavaripalem Organic Food Park in Anakapalli district (500 acres); Renewable Energy Manufacturing Zone (REMZ) in Prakasam district (498 acres); and Veldurthi Mega Textile Park in Palnadu district (500 acres).
The A.P. Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) is the State nodal agency for the projects. The IPs were identified based on industrial demand, sector-specific ecosystems, location advantages, connectivity, utilities and their potential to attract investment and generate employment.
Steps have also been taken to integrate the IPs with the State’s Single Desk and digital industrial approval systems. A ring-fencing framework covering operations, governance and institutional responsibilities was prepared and reviewed by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC).
The proposals are currently under appraisal and selection by the GoI under the challenge route.
The IPs are being notified under Section 3 of the A.P. Industrial Corridor Development Authority Act, 2017, as part of the industrial node or periphery, in accordance with Section 4 of the Act.
The A.P. government plans to develop an integrated space industry ecosystem at the Tirupati Space City, drawing on the model of SpaceX. The facility is envisaged as a hub for manufacturing, payload and satellite assembly, avionics and launch logistics.
Skyroot Aerospace, whose Vikram-1 became India’s first privately developed orbital-class rocket to be launched from Sriharikota, is among the companies set to make a major investment in the Space City.
Meanwhile, the government has fast-tracked land acquisition for the REMZ, which is expected to attract marquee companies manufacturing a range of products, including solar photovoltaic cells, turbine blades, battery energy storage systems, electrolysers and water turbines.
