A heated exchange between the ruling side and the Opposition over students' protests in various parts of Bihar disrupted the Assembly proceedings for about an hour on Friday (July 24, 2026).

As soon as the House assembled for the final day of the Monsoon session, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)’s Alok Mehta rose in his seat to demand a discussion on the unrest that began with protests in the State capital a couple of days ago and spread to various other districts on Thursday (July 23, 2026) over the NEET paper leak.

"Several students have been injured in lathi charge. In Jehanabad, police even fired gunshots on Thursday (July 23, 2026). There must be a discussion on attempts to repress students raising legitimate demands," Mr. Mehta said.

Notably, student bodies in the State have been triggered by the Cockroach Janta Party's stir in the national capital over paper leak of the medical entrance test, which has now become a major political issue with Opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal lending their active support.

However, Alok Mehta was interrupted by Raju Tiwari of Union Minister Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

Mr. Tiwari said, "Goons have been creating mayhem in the guise of students. The House should bring a censure motion." Soon, members from both sides were on their feet, trading charges, and many of them rushed to the well, even as Speaker Prem Kumar kept urging them to return to their seats.

The melee continued for a few minutes, and the Speaker, whose plea for order had no impact, adjourned the House till 12 p.m.
