The 50th anniversary of Star Wars is just around the corner, and Lucasfilm is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the legendary original trilogy that gave birth to a galaxy-changing franchise beloved by millions around the globe.
Disney's 50th anniversary plans aren’t just beholden to putting the original film out on IMAX at your local theater. At Lucasfilm Publishing’s San Diego Comic-Con panel this year, the company revealed a long list of upcoming books for fans of all ages and genre preferences. But let’s be honest, the emphasis is clearly on the original trilogy.
Our biggest highlight of the event is undoubtedly an upcoming graphic novel from siblings Chas! Pangburn and Kim Shearer. Titled Star Wars: A New Hope: Triple Take, the novel retells A New Hope from the perspective of its three legendary heroes: Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo.
But if you're someone who was expecting more than looking back at the past, don’t fret: there's a ton to be excited about, from a new story exploring Kylo Ren’s next steps to a prequel following Luke Skywalker and Biggs Darklighter as kids.
Here’s everything revealed at the Lucasfilm Publishing Comic-Con panel, when it’s set to be released, and why you should care about it.
1 Star Wars: A New Hope: Triple Take
Pangburn and Shearer might be newcomers to Star Wars, but the two have experience in graphic novels following young adults and kids on huge adventures with their popular "flip book" series Double Booking, and what bigger adventure than the one that brought Luke, Leia, and Han together?
A retelling might sound surface-level at first, but given how different Luke, Leia, and Han are from one another, we’re excited to see a new perspective on our three heroes and deeper insight into their thoughts in the original film.

Release Date: May 2027
**Official synopsis: **
Celebrate 50 years of Star Wars with a wild graphic novel retelling of the galaxy-changing adventure that started it all!
Sibling writers and Star Wars newcomers Chas! Pangburn and Kim Shearer (Double Booking) pen a fun-filled, multi-perspective retelling that reimagines the events of Star Wars: A New Hope through the eyes of the Rebellion’s most notable heroes: Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker!
Luke remembers a larger-than-life mythic journey of destiny and courage, Leia recalls the dangerous reality of rebellion against the Empire, and Han? Han mostly remembers how incredibly heroic he was.
See the iconic story as you’ve never seen it before, from Darth Vader’s terrifying first appearance to the denizens of the Mos Eisley Cantina to the destruction of the Death Star! Fans are in for a visual treat as a quartet of artists bring each character’s account to life.
2 Star Wars: Twin Crossroads
Beth Revis, a renowned sci-fi and fantasy author known for previous Star Wars works like the 2017 origin story of Jyn Erso, Rebel Rising, and the 2022 romance of Han Solo and Leia Organa, Princess and the Scoundrel, makes a notable comeback in 2027. This time, she offers fans a glimpse into a period only hinted at in The Rise of Skywalker and the 2026 novel Star Wars: Legacy — Luke Skywalker training his twin sister Leia to use the Force and become a Jedi.
Outside of the now non-canonical Expanded Universe, there truly have not been enough stories focusing on the Skywalker siblings and their relationship with one another. Revis aims to fix that, while also giving us a look into how the legacy of their parents, Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, looks to shape their future.
Author: Beth Revis
Publisher: Random House Worlds
Release Date: April 6. 2027
**Official synopsis: **
*After the events of Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa train together in the ways of the Jedi. The siblings must confront the legacies of their birth parents Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, and their own diverging futures in the Force. *
*The second Death Star is in ruins. As the burgeoning New Republic pursues scattered Imperial forces across the galaxy, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa train on the remote planet of Ajan Kloss and walk the path of the Jedi side-by-side. *
During this reprieve from battle, the twins grow their connection to the Force and their own bond as they shoulder the responsibility of carrying on the Jedi Order’s legacy. But each also carries a burden they struggle to share with the other. Luke loves seeing his sister excel but doubts his teaching ability when there is still so much to discover and learn. Leia, meanwhile, is determined to master these new skills, but she struggles with both what it would mean to commit her life entirely to serving the Force and the knowledge of being Darth Vader’s daughter.
Despite their doubts, Luke and Leia volunteer for an urgent covert New Republic mission to infiltrate the center of Imperial power: Coruscant.
Their quest begins at the Imperial palace, once the Jedi Temple, where they gain a new understanding of the former Jedi Order and Galactic Republic. The mission will be more transformative than either could imagine, as they discover the legacy left behind by their birth parents on a planet where some are still willing to hope. And though certainty is scarce, Luke and Leia’s faith in one another will help them each seek out the path they must ultimately walk.
