Netflix has reconsidered its initial decision to cancel Tyler Perry’s high-stakes drama, Beauty in Black, after three seasons.

In December, the streamer originally announced the series had been renewed for a third and final season. However, in a reversal, the series has now been renewed for a fourth season, ahead of its season three premiere.

“That Bellarie reign just won’t let up! SEASON 4 of Beauty In Black is officially in the works!!” Netflix said Wednesday on social media. Along with the announcement, the streamer included a video of cast members and Perry sharing the news.

“The Bellaries are not done causing trouble,” star Taylor Polidore Williams revealed, with co-star Crystle Stewart adding, “We’ve been keeping this secret as long as we could.”

“Brand new episodes of Beauty in Black is [sic] coming,” Perry said. “Thank you for riding with us at Netflix on this Bellarie trip that’s gonna go crazy next season. We’ll see you in season four.”

The show, which debuted in 2024, features Williams, Stewart, Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls and Julian Horton. Created, written, directed and executive produced by Perry, it follows two women (Williams and Stewart) from very different socioeconomic statuses whose lives become connected.

The surprise renewal comes nearly a year after the release of its two-part season two, which exceeded expectations, spending six weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 and reaching No. 1 in 17 countries.

A release date for season three has not yet been announced, though production has already wrapped.

The forthcoming season will finally see Kimmie (Williams) with a seat at the Bellarie table. “But holding on to her newfound power won’t be easy,” according to Netflix’s Tudum.

“When a deadly family feud erupts, she’s forced into an uneasy alliance with Mallory (Stewart). Together, they navigate a ruthless world of blackmail, revenge, and buried secrets as the family wages war against one of its own, threatening to bring the entire Bellarie empire crashing down.”

Perry further celebrated the news in a statement to Tudum, saying: “Beauty in Black is back for Season 4, and the Bellarie family’s story is far from finished. There was so much more I wanted to explore, and I’m grateful I get to keep telling this story.

“To the audience that has been on this ride with us from Day 1, thank you for watching and sharing it with the world. More episodes are on the way!”
