The coordination committee of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) will meet here on July 30, UDF convener Adoor Prakash said on Saturday (July 25, 2026).
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan will preside over the meeting planned at the Cliff House, which will primarily discuss the appointments to the top posts in the corporations and boards under the government departments, Mr. Prakash said at a press conference here.
He said the decisions regarding the appointments will be finalised in consultation with Ministers and on the basis of consensus among the UDF partners. At present, important positions are still held by individuals appointed by the previous government. The UDF does not intend to continue with them, Mr. Prakash said.
On whether the UDF meet will discuss issues such as the tax revision on low-alcohol beverages, the Adani Group’s proposed stake sale in the Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd and the appointment of government pleaders, Mr. Prakash said the Chief Minister would highlight issues that need to be discussed. Amid mounting protest over the Revised Budget proposal to lower the tax on low-alcohol beverages, Mr. Satheesan had indicated that the final decision on the matter would be taken by the UDF.
In early June, briefing presspersons on Cabinet decisions, Mr. Satheesan had said that chairpersons and vice-chairpersons appointed during the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s term in boards and corporations would be replaced. Fresh appointments would be made in accordance with the norms, he had said.
The July 30 meeting will also be the first after the UDF government took over in May. Mr. Prakash attributed the alleged delay to the Budget session of the State Legislative Assembly and the Parliament’s Monsoon session.
On the appointment of a full-time president for the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Mr. Prakash said the decision has to be taken by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The decision can be expected soon, he added.
