Taqueban is new commander of key Army brigade in Northern Mindanao

ILIGAN CITY – Brigadier General Bernardo Taqueban on Friday took over as the new commander of the Philippine Army’s 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade based in Camp Badrodin in Barangay Maria Cristina here.

He is the 14th commander of the unit which has jurisdiction over internal security operations in Iligan City and the the provinces of Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and parts of Misamis Oriental.

It deals with threats from the remnants of the communist movement in the hinterlands of Iligan City and nearby villages of Misamis Oriental as well as the local affiliates of the Islamic State in border communities of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

Taqueban said his top priority is maintaining a “stable internal peace and security … to sustain development in our area of responsibility.”

Taqueban is a member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Marilag’ Class of 1995.

Major General Ronel Manalo, commander of the Army’s Armor Division, who installed Taqueban in the command, reminded the soldiers to “secure the communities under your area of responsibility (and) uphold its mission, its discipline, its welfare, its readiness and its honor.”

Manalo lauded the accomplishment of Taqueban while he was acting brigade commander for over five months.
