Rhasidat Adeleke has achieved automatic qualification for the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

It was a last chance for her, after not competing in the last two events. She needed 33.85 or better in the women's 200 meters final at the National Track and Field Championships in Santry.

Adeleke won the race in 22.08, and she was delighted with her performance.

Speaking to Newstalk, she said, "It has been a rough year, so there weren't necessarily any expectations coming in. I just wanted to come out here in front of a home crowd and show up and show out really."

However, there was concern for Sharlene Mawdsley, who pulled up 80 meters into the race with an injury.
