A suspected drug peddler allegedly rammed his car into police personnel while attempting to flee a raid by the Hyderabad City Police’s Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) in Abids on Sunday (July 26, 2026) afternoon, leaving two policemen injured. Separate cases of attempt to murder were registered against the accused at the Abids and Afzalgunj Police Stations.

According to the police, the H-NEW team had received specific information that a drug transaction was to take place in Abids at around 2 p.m. on Sunday. Acting on the tip-off, police officers kept the area under surveillance and intercepted a car, bearing registration number TG 12 8766, in which the suspected peddler had arrived to allegedly supply narcotics.

The police said the accused initially appeared to comply with instructions to pull over. However, as the officers approached the vehicle, he allegedly accelerated suddenly and rammed the car into the police personnel before fleeing the spot.

Police constable Mahesh Yadav sustained a fracture to his right leg in the incident, while another policeman, Vamshi, suffered minor injuries.

During the course of the investigation, police also found that the same vehicle had allegedly been used to ram into another police officer in the Afzalgunj area earlier on Sunday while the accused was evading interception. The suspect was identified as Saif, a resident of Husseini Alam.

Based on a complaint lodged by Mahesh Yadav late on Sunday night, the Abids Police registered a case, including a charge of attempt to murder. A similar case was also registered at the Afzalgunj Police Station in connection with the earlier incident.

Police teams have launched a search to trace and apprehend the accused, while the investigation into the alleged drug supply network is underway. As per the echallan website, the car is registered to Mohd Shareef and has unpaid pending challans worth ₹2,440 since June 12.
