Gunmen in large numbers on Sunday night attacked Naridon village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing about 30 people.
Although, police authorities have been silent, relatives of victims and residents spoke with DAILY POST recounting their ordeal.
A source from the village told DAILY POST, “Only 30 people have been confirmed killed by the gunmen, many people are missing because they fled for their lives. Many others have been injured, who have sustained different wounds and are being rushed to medical centers for treatment.”
He added, “Many houses have been razed down and properties worth millions of naira were completely destroyed.”
He lamented that the attack had plunged the community into mourning, with concerns that the death toll could rise as residents continued to assess the situation and gather more information following the attack.
The source described the incident as another tragic reminder of the persistent insecurity affecting vulnerable communities in Kauru LGA and other parts of the state, leading to deaths, injuries, the burning of houses and the displacement of many innocent people.
He called on the Kaduna State and Federal Governments, as well as security agencies, to urgently strengthen security in affected communities to restore normalcy and enable people to return to their farming activities, saying that those responsible for such barbaric acts should be brought to justice.
The spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment to confirm the incident.
