The Benue State Youth Leader of the Labour Party (LP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent and decisive steps to address the worsening insecurity across the country.

He described the recent attack on Otukpo and surrounding communities as a tragic reminder of the nation’s worsening security challenges.

In a statement issued on Monday, Onyilo condemned the attack, allegedly carried out by suspected armed Fulani herders, saying the recurring violence has left residents living in fear and uncertainty.

He lamented that many communities in Benue South could no longer enjoy peace, insisting that the persistent attacks demand urgent and coordinated action from all levels of government.

Onyilo also called on the National Assembly to fast-track the passage of the State Police Bill, arguing that the current centralised policing system has proved inadequate in addressing insecurity, particularly in rural communities.

According to him, establishing state police would enable governors and local authorities to respond more effectively to security threats and better protect lives and property.

Onyilo urged the Benue State Government to strengthen the security presence across vulnerable areas of Benue South to prevent further attacks, warning that the continued displacement of farming communities poses a serious threat to food security.

The Labour Party youth leader reaffirmed his party’s solidarity with victims of violence and pledged continued advocacy for policies aimed at guaranteeing the safety and security of all Nigerians.
