The Munambam police, investigating the disappearance of a civil police officer (CPO), said on Monday that he remained untraced despite having contacted family members and friends from different locations.

Anjith, 41, a native of Kuzhuppilly in Munambam and a CPO attached to the Vadakkekkara police station in Ernakulam district, has been missing since Saturday after he left his home allegedly following a domestic dispute.

The Munambam police have launched a search for the officer based on a complaint filed by his wife. The police have registered a missing case under Section 57 of the Kerala Police Act.

According to the Munambam police, he left his house around 9 a.m. on Saturday. The police said they had traced his movements to the Kodungallur region after identifying an autorickshaw driver who had dropped him there.

The police said his mobile phone had remained switched off for most of the time. “However, he has contacted his elder brother and close friends from phones borrowed from others. It is suspected that he was in areas including Cherai and Aluva West over the past two days,” an officer said.

The officer added that the CPO had reportedly stayed away from his home for a short while following family disputes in the past too, but the family was worried this time as his phone remained switched off for long.
