Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert stood in as host on the conservative channel One America News Monday evening, replacing former congressman Matt Gaetz in the anchor’s chair.

Gaetz has hosted the show since January 2025, having resigned his seat in Florida after President Donald Trump nominated him to be attorney general, only to then step aside a week later when it became clear that several past scandals documented in a bombshell House Ethics Committee report threatened to derail his confirmation.

The former representative denied any wrongdoing but was nevertheless forced to reinvent himself as a TV personality, hosting The Matt Gaetz Show on OAN and even turning up for press briefings at the Pentagon.

In an unusual move for a sitting member of Congress, Boebert stood in for Gaetz on his day off and issued a warm welcome from “sunny San Diego,” despite being perched in front of a shot of the sun setting behind the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

She began with an opening monologue about the “rampant problem of non-citizens voting in U.S. elections,” looking ahead anxiously to November’s midterms.

The representative took as her jumping off point a PBS report alleging that 6,600 undocumented migrants had been allowed to register to vote in New Jersey because of a system glitch, 400 of whom reportedly went on to cast a ballot.

She argued that the story justified the concerns about election security raised by the president and others and complained that, whenever the issue is raised by right-wingers, it routinely gets dismissed as “fearmongering” by liberals.

Republicans who have been tarred as “cranks and bigots” should now feel vindicated, Boebert said, because “the chickens have come home to roost.”

She attacked the idea that it was “radical” or an affront on citizens’ rights to expect them to produce proof of identification before granting them their constitutional right to vote, an implicit promotion of the SAVE America Act, which Trump has been calling on Congress to pass for weeks.

The novice host then introduced a number of guests to support her arguments, including election lawyer Cleta Mitchell and Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a fellow MAGA congresswoman.

Asked by an incredulous Boebert why Trump’s voting reform act continued to lack support on Capitol Hill, Luna answered: “If you don’t want voter ID and you don’t want proof of citizenship, it’s because you have nefarious intentions to cheat.”

She then moved on to another guest, “comedian turned truthteller” Rob Schneider – the star of Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999) – who said Texas Christians were not being protected from a “radical Islamic takeover” of their state, a statement that went completely unchallenged.

Schneider urged conservatives to become more involved in local politics to fight back and quoted the late Charlie Kirk, who he claimed had once told him it was important for people to show “one percent more courage” in defending their interests.

A final guest, Christian singer-songwriter Sean Feucht, joined Boebert to discuss a reported rise in church attendance and Bible sales, which the duo attributed to lost young people seeking God and a “moment of truth” in response to the contemporary loneliness epidemic.

Feucht was provided ample opportunity to hawk a new book and promote a revival concert at Mount Rushmore scheduled for Labor Day.
