Bloodless covenant: Bohol, San Juan City make sisterhood pact

MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — Bohol-made products will soon be showcased on mall shelves in San Juan City, Metro Manila, as the city government also pledged to help promote the island province’s tourism destinations to its residents.

The commitments were announced by San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora following the signing of a sisterhood agreement between the two local government units over the weekend.

“We can cross promote tourism opportunities,” he said.

“There are a lot of countless opportunities that we can maximize,” Zamora added.

Bloodless compact

In his message, Bohol Governor Erico Aris Aumentado said the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) he signed with Zamora was more than just a document.

Aumentado described the agreement as a “modern-day Sandugo” or “a bloodless covenant of mutual respect, shared vision, and an unbreakable bond between our people.”

He said the partnership symbolizes a renewed commitment to cooperation and stronger ties between Bohol and San Juan City.

“Through this pact, we vow to share best practices that strengthen public trust and ensure that every serve our people honestly.”

Areas of cooperation

The MOA was signed on Sunday, July 26, shortly before the official start of the Ritual Showdown of the Sandugo sa Bohol Festival of Festivals.

Under the agreement, the two local government units (LGUs) committed to collaborate in 10 key areas: tourism; trade, commerce, and industry; science and technology; culture and the arts; youth development; education; environmental protection; social services; public health; and urban planning and development.

The pact also provides for the creation of a technical working group composed of representatives from both LGUs to oversee the implementation of the agreement.

In his message, Zamora said San Juan City is ready to showcase and sell Boholano products at Greenhills Mall and even outside the San Juan City Hall.

He also pledged to help promote Bohol’s tourism destinations, particularly its white-sand beaches, which he said are among his favorite attractions in the province.
