Julie Anne San Jose recalls heartbreak over first love; is it Alden Richards?

Julie Anne San Jose opened up about a past relationship that she struggled to move on from during the early days of her career. 

San Jose made the remarks during a recent guest appearance on the online show “TRGGRD!,” as she described how deeply she was affected by the relationship.

“There was someone na talagang parang hindi ko ma-explain, naaning talaga ako,” she said.

Although she did not reveal the person’s identity, San Jose suggested that their respective careers may have contributed to the relationship not working out.

“Maybe kasi, mga bata pa kami nun, and then we both had the peak of our careers siguro,” she said.

The actress-singer also said fan reactions might have influenced the situation.

“Inaway-away kasi siya [ng fans] ata. Siguro naging factor din yon na inisip niya na, ‘Career muna ako,’ ganyan,” she recalled.

While San Jose did not identify her first love, some netizens speculated that she might have been referring to fellow Kapuso star Alden Richards, who was previously linked to her while they were working together on the variety show “Party Pilipinas.”

In 2023, Richards admitted on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” that he was responsible for their relationship not progressing because he chose to prioritize his career.

“I decided to mag-focus na lang po talaga sa work. Yun po yung inihingi ko ng sorry sa kanya,” he said.

Richards also revealed that he later apologized to San Jose in person after years of not speaking.

“I’m really sorry for all what happened. Iniwan kita and there’s no one to blame but me… And I am very sorry. Sana mapatawad mo na ako,” the actor recalled.

The actor said the conversation brought him relief and that they are now “very much good friends.”

San Jose is currently in a relationship with actor Rayver Cruz, while Richards remains single. /ra
