MANILA, Philippines – A day after oil companies implemented another hefty increase in pump prices, motorists and public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers are bracing for its impact as transport groups renewed calls for an immediate fare hike, saying the latest round of fuel price increases has become unsustainable.
The latest adjustment, driven by renewed tensions in the Middle East, pushed diesel prices up by another double-digit amount, further eroding the earnings of jeepney and bus operators already burdened by successive fuel price hikes.
