The Water Resources Department (WRD) would prioritise desilting of waterways and waterbodies with the support of non-governmental organisations before the onset of Northeast monsoon.
At a review meeting held in the city on Wednesday on the ongoing works and demand for grants in the upcoming budget, Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources N. Anand said several new proposals, designed with climate change in mind and incorporating modern technologies, were being considered for inclusion in the budget as part of the State’s ‘Vision Vetri Tamizhagam’.
He directed the officials to expedite flood mitigation works and ensure water conservation measures. The department must issue no objection certificates to facilitate desilting works in a transparent manner. Satyabrata Sahoo, Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department and other senior WRD officials were present, said a press release.
