B2Gold gives P3.9M to calamity-hit Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — Canadian-based B2Gold and its Philippine affiliate companies have provided nearly P4 million in relief and rebuilding assistance to communities in Mindanao devastated by a powerful earthquake and Typhoon Inday.

In a statement, B2Gold said its local companies—Phil. Gold Processing & Refining Corp. (PGPRC), B2Gold Philippine Exploration Corp. and affiliate Filminera Resources Corp. rolled out the #TabangMindanaoOperation to support residents of Malapatan, Sarangani following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake and the landslides triggered by the typhoon.

The initiative delivered a total of P3.91 million in assistance, consisting of P1.4 million worth of relief goods, P2.5 million in construction materials for rebuilding efforts and P124,000 for temporary shelter assistance.

“Our corporate social responsibility extends beyond our mining operations,” PGPRC president Ryan Rusk said.

According to the company, around 13,000 residents across Malapatan benefited from the program, with priority assistance directed to Barangay Poblacion and Barangay Sapu Masla, where 491 households suffered extensive damage.

The relief operation included food packs containing rice, canned goods, drinking water and instant noodles, as well as hygiene kits and sleeping kits for displaced families.

To help residents rebuild their homes, the companies also donated galvanized iron roofing sheets, marine plywood, coco lumber, nails, laminated shelter sheets, ropes and other construction materials.
