According to military sources, starting at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, Russian invaders launched a massive attack on Ukraine using strike drones and air-, land-, and sea-based missiles.
The main targets of the attack were the Kyiv and Lviv regions. The Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were also under attack.
A distinctive feature of this massive attack was the simultaneous use of various types of air-attack weapons from multiple directions, along with numerous ballistic and cruise missiles.
The Radio Engineering Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detected a total of 358 air-attack weapons:
- Four Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles. Launch area: Kursk region, Russian Federation;
- Nine Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles. Launch areas: Bryansk, Voronezh, and Kursk regions of the Russian Federation;
- 61 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles. Launch areas: Vologda region of the Russian Federation and the city of Novorossiysk in Krasnodar region;
- 284 Shahed-type strike drones, including jet-powered drones, Gerbera, Italmas, and Parody-type decoy drones. Launch sites: the Russian settlements of Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, and Shatalovo.
The enemy attack was repelled by the Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Preliminary reports indicate that as of 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, air defenses had shot down or jammed one Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missile, 54 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles, and 265 Russian military drones.
It has also been preliminarily confirmed that three anti-ship missiles, six ballistic missiles, and two cruise missiles fired by the enemy struck targets, along with 17 combat UAVs at 20 locations, and that debris from downed missiles was found at 13 locations.
Information regarding eight additional missiles is still being verified.
The Air Force emphasizes that several Russian drones are still being detected in the skies over Ukraine, and the attack is ongoing.
As reported by Ukrinform, at least eight people were killed, and dozens more were injured in Ukraine during a massive attack by Russian forces on the night of July 30. Rescue operations are ongoing in Lviv.
