GSIS microloan releases reach P27.3B

MANILA, Philippines — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has disbursed P27.29 billion in microloans to more than 463,000 active government employees since launching its Ginhawa lending program, as the state pension fund seeks to provide an alternative to informal lenders.

The Ginhawa Go Program released P27.29 billion to 463,608 borrowers from Oct. 24, 2024 through July 28, 2026, GSIS said in a statement. GSIS introduced the facility as Ginhawa Lite before rebranding it as Ginhawa Go in February 2026.

The program offers loans ranging from P1,000 to P50,000 at a 6 percent interest rate, with repayment terms of 30 days to 24 months depending on the loan size. Members file applications via the GSIS Touch mobile app, which credits approved loan proceeds directly to their accounts.

The loans also come with Loan Redemption Insurance, which settles any outstanding balance if a borrower dies, shielding beneficiaries from assuming the debt. GSIS said eligible members may apply through the mobile app or at any of its branches nationwide. /pai INQ
