New yellow alert declared over Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has declared another yellow alert over the Visayas grid on the last day of July amid the unavailability of major coal plants.

In an advisory, the grid operator said it would impose the alert status from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

As of 8 a.m., the grid’s available capacity was 2,564 megawatts (MW), while its peak demand was 2,321 MW.

A yellow alert indicates that available power reserves are thinning, meaning any unexpected plant outage could trigger service interruptions. /pai INQ
