The test consists of 60 multiple choice questions with four possible answers, of which only one is correct.
While many mock practice tests (including The Local's own) have cropped up online, the Swedish Higher Education Council (Universitets- och högskolerådet, UHR), which is administering the test, has now published an official set of five example questions.
You can find them under the heading Provfrågor, which is below a list of audio versions of the official test study booklet.
Since the test will be in Swedish (although the language level of the questions will not be harder than the lower intermediate level required for citizenship), the example questions are also in Swedish. We've broken them down in English below.

- The first question – Vad är den offentliga sektorns främsta uppgift? – asks "What is the primary task of the public sector?". The four multiple choice options below it are:
- To run businesses for a profit
- To organize welfare services such as healthcare and education
- To formulate and enact new laws
- To represent Sweden internationally
- The next question – Vilken titel har Sveriges statschef? – translates to "What is the title of Sweden's head of state?" The answer options are:
- Speaker
- King
- County Governor
- Prime Minister

3. The third question is Vilken svensk naturresurs har under lång tid haft stor betydelse för Sveriges ekonomi?. That translates to: "Which Swedish natural resource has long been of great importance to Sweden's economy?" The answer options are:
- Natural gas
- Oil
- Timber
- Uranium
4. The next question – Vilket land var under nästan 700 år, fram till år 1809, en del av Sverige? – translates to "Which country was part of Sweden for nearly 700 years, until 1809?" The answer options are:
- Norway
- Finland
- Denmark
- Estonia

- The last example question is a bit longer, and has two parts. It reads: En person skriver ett inlägg på sociala medier där hen kritiserar ett politiskt förslag. Vilket alternativ beskriver bäst hur yttrandefriheten fungerar?. This translates to: "Someone is writing a social media post criticising a political proposal. Which of the following alternatives best describes how free speech functions [in this case]?"
- The person may only express positive opinions about political proposals
- The person may express their opinion as long as what they write does not violate the law
- The person must first ask permission to write the post
- The person may not name the politicians who made the proposal

The questions and required knowledge for the civics test is being decided by a team at Gothenburg University, while UHR is responsible for all other aspects of the exam.
