Moment police attacked with toxic spray while responding to domestic assault report

A police officer was temporarily blinded when a man sprayed a substance in her face.

Bodycam footage shows the moment that a pair of Bedfordshire Police officers were attacked when they responded to a report of domestic assault at a house in Luton in May.

Ionut Spanache can be seen spraying a noxious substance in the faces of two female officers. One officer can be heard saying that she could not see as she collapsed to the ground.

Spanache, 31, of Dunstable Road, Luton, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on an emergency worker, possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid, and actual bodily harm.
