Show-cause notice has been issued to the firm contracted to supply milk sachet films to Aavin as the milk sachets supplied in Namakkal and Madurai districts were found to be substandard because of the poor quality of the films supplied by it, Milk and Dairy Development Minister C. Vijayalakshmi said here on Friday.

Ms. Vijayalakshmi, who inspected a milk chilling plant of the Karur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union at Thoranakalpatti near here, said the substandard film supplied by the firm was not being used now for packaging milk in the two districts and had been stored separately. The Karur district union procured about 58,000 litres of milk a day and of this 13,000 was sold locally. Officials had been instructed to increase sales and ensure timely disbursement of dues to milk producers.

Ms. Vijayalakshmi said that stern action would be taken against those spreading misinformation on the quality of Aavin products in social media. She distributed welfare assistance worth ₹5.20 lakh to 20 beneficiaries on the occasion.
