When iPhone 17 Pro launched, Apple touted the device’s improved durability. One user just put that claim to the test—unintentionally—and came away shocked after her iPhone 17 Pro survived an airplane fall unscathed.

iPhone 17 Pro with no case fell 1.1km out of airplane and came away unscathed

Have you ever accidentally dropped your iPhone from the passenger seat of a plane?

It’s certainly not advisable. But if you do, you might be surprised how well the device survives.

Per a new video report shared by CBC, Heather Cline was recently seated as a passenger in the plane her husband was flying in Saskatchewan when her iPhone took an unfortunate dive.

The iPhone 17 Pro was in a case initially, but per Cline, “the airstream sucked the phone right out of the case.” From there, it fell out of the airplane and dropped 1.1 kilometers (or about 2/3 of a mile).

Though they might have otherwise considered it lost, the couple saw that the iPhone was still showing up on Find My. So they decided to go search for it.

And when they found it, face-up in a canola field, it was “pristine.”

To be fair, for every amazing story of the iPhone’s durability, there are also plenty of reports of enduring damage after a short fall from a pocket.

Regardless, Cline’s story is an impressive testament to the hardware quality of Apple products.
