Want to own an actual piece of sandworm used in the production of Dune: Part Three? Of course you do. And now you can, for a price.
This week, io9 is excited to exclusively reveal two awesome Dune book bits. First is the cover reveal for The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Three by Stefanie Broos and Tanya Lapointe. News of the book, which will be released on December 22, was previously announced, but with a generic placeholder image. Well, go ahead and delete that. Here’s the official cover.

So that’s the book itself, with a very cool (in every sense) cover that makes it look incredibly different from what Denis Villeneuve captured in the first two films. But you’re still wondering about the sandworm, right? Well, that’s from our second exclusive.
When Dune: Part Two came out, there was an $800 edition that came with a prop replica of a thumper. It was bonkers. And now, Insight is doing that again. We’re excited to also exclusively reveal the Legacy Edition of The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Three, which comes with all sorts of bells and whistles, such as that actual piece of sandworm. It’s out on January 12, 2027, and here’s your first look.

Here’s what you see in the photo, as described by the official press release:
- AUTHENTIC SCREEN-USED WORM PROP: A genuine fragment from the full-scale sandworm set constructed in Abu Dhabi for the filming of numerous desert sequences. This exceptionally rare piece originates from the less than one percent of the massive practical sandworm prop that was preserved following production, making it a unique and highly collectible artifact from the film.
- DELUXE COLLECTOR’S BOX-SET: Housed in a deluxe box set adorned with a three-dune commemorative symbol designed to mark the cast and crew’s journey through the Dune trilogy, reproduced here with the filmmakers’ permission.
- SIGNATURE CARD: Includes exclusive signature card signed by director-screenwriter-producer Denis Villeneuve and writer-producer Tanya Lapointe.
- EXCLUSIVE LIMITED-EDITION COVER OF THE ART AND SOUL OF DUNE PART THREE:Features the sacred markings featured under Emperor Paul Muad’Dib Atreides’s eye in the film. The 240-page book is a rare, behind the scenes account of the making of the film with never-before-seen photographs and concept art.
- SPACE NAVIGATOR REPLICA STATUE: A meticulously crafted Spacing Guild Navigator replica produced from the same production files used to create the original 10-foot-tall prop featured in the movie, presented with a display stand.
“In this book, Broos \& Lapointe share their experiences of working with Denis Villeneuve and witnessing the creative process behind the Dune trilogy firsthand. Offering exclusive access to the cast and crew, this is a must-have for cinephiles and fans of Frank Herbertâs Dune alike,” the press release reads.
“As the official companion to the trilogyâs epic conclusion, the book takes readers deeper into the filmmaking process with rare behind-the-scenes photography and early and final concept art, all in a collectible hardcover presentation housed in a deluxe slipcase. Featuring striking imagery the cast and crew, The Art and Soul of Dune: Part Three offers an immersive visual archive that captures the scale, craft, and creative ambition behind the sagaâs final chapter.”
So yeah. The book sounds incredible. Plus, the Legacy Edition comes with the screen-used sandworm fragment, along with the replica statue, autographs, and more. All of which is to say, when we tell you it costs $400, you shouldn’t be surprised. And at least it’s not $800.
And, if you just want the book itself, it retails for $65. Click here for more info on the regular edition and here for the Legacy Edition.
