With the UK enduring its hottest summer on record, suncream bottles are flying off the supermarket shelves at an unprecedented rate.
Some parts of the country have not seen rain for more than 43 days, with Amber heat-health alerts issued for certain regions axs the mercury rises once again this summer.
But with an ever-growing number of products on the market which promise to provide sufficient protection against the sun, it can be challenging to know which are truly worth the price.
While supermarket own-brand suncreams can cost as little as £2.79 and £3.65, Chanel's offering comes at a staggering price of £95, followed by Orchidee Imperiale at £136.
But is a pricey suncream truly worth the price? And which bottles should you consider investing in for the remainder of the summer?
Dr Ross Perry, Medical Director of Cosmetics skin clinics, told The Daily Mail: 'The biggest misconception people have is that a more expensive sunscreen automatically offers better protection.
'A sunscreen that costs £5 but is applied generously every two hours will almost always outperform a £100 luxury sunscreen that's applied sparingly because people are trying to make it last.'
London-based skincare expert Dr Gizem Seymenoglu added: 'Price is not always an indicator of performance. Some affordable suncreams offer excellent protection, while some premium products reflect luxury ingredients and branding as much as UV protection.'

According to Dr Seymenoglu, the Aldi Sun Lotion is a viable option as it offers 'broad-specrum protection' by combining 'mineral and chemical UV filters'.
She added: 'This uses a combination of mineral and chemical UV filters.;
However, she noted that, in her personal view, she typically 'prefers suncreams that rely on one filter system rather than a hybrid formula'.
'I'd also be cautious about expecting moisturising benefits from an SPF alone, as its primary role is sun protection.'
Dr Perry added: 'Aldi's sunscreen performs well for the price and meets UK safety standards. It provides broad-spectrum protection and includes moisturising ingredients without unnecessary extras.
'It may not have the elegant finish of premium products, but from a sun protection perspective it's difficult to fault.'

In Dr Seymenoglu's view, this suncream product 'appears to use chemical UV filters without mineral filters'.
She added: 'It also contains fragrance, so if you have very sensitive or easily irritated skin, I'd generally lean towards a fragrance-free formula instead.'
However, Dr Pery noted that the 'formulation focuses on effective UV filters rather than luxury skincare ingredients, making it an excellent everyday option for families'.
'Cien has built a reputation for producing reliable sunscreens at a very competitive price,' he added.

'The brand also highlights its moisturising benefits, but when I evaluate a sunscreen, my priority is always the quality of its UV protection.
'Added hydration can be a nice bonus, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor when choosing an SPF.'
Meanwhile, Dr Perry described the formulation as 'straightforward' and 'suitable for most skin types'.
He added: 'It may feel slightly heavier than premium facial sunscreens, but for body use it's a sensible choice.'

However, she noted that 'alcohol-containing formulas may not suit every skin type, particularly very dry or sensitive skin, where some people may experience feelings of dryness or discomfort.
She added: 'The formula also contains modern chemical UV filters designed to help provide broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.'
In Dr Perry's view, this product showcases why dry mist formulas are 'popular' and is worth buying, provided it's applied generously.
'They're quick and convenient, although users should ensure enough product is applied to achieve the stated SPF.
'Convenience often encourages more frequent reapplication.'

Dr Seymenoglu praised the 'added ceramides' this product contains, noting that they 'many be benficial for people with a compromised skin barrier or very dry skin'.
However, she added: 'I don't think everyone necessarily needs extra barrier-supporting ingredients in a sunscreen, particularly if they have oily or acne-prone skin and simply want lightweight UV protection.'
Dr Perry, meanwhile, described the product as 'good value, particularly for dry or sensitive skin'.

She added: 'The brand also positions it as a daily moisturiser and makeup primer, which may appeal to people looking for an all-in-one product.
'Personally, though, I think the primary role of a sunscreen should always be reliable UV protection. If your main goal is effective sun protection, there are more affordable options that can provide a very similar level of protection.'
Meanwhile, Dr Perry noted that while it 'combines high-end skincare technology with suncream, the additional cost reflects luxury ingredients and branding rather than significantly improved UV defence'.
