After a rough launch last year, work on Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 continues, with the game's first DLC, Loose Cannon, having now settled on a release date: April 27th! That's soon, like next week soon as long as my materially non-existent calendar is right. A new trailer and a fresh bout of details about the DLC were shared too, offering some insight into what you'll actually be doing.

This time around, you'll be playing as Benny Muldoon, who didn't feature all that much in Phyre's story, which according to a dev log is essentially why he was chosen for this DLC. According to said dev log, Loose Cannon will take place over four quests that starts shortly after Phyre meets Benny, up to the point of their next encounter, "as well as several events that occurred before the Nomad awoke in Seattle. You will discover what he knew, why he acted as he did, and how his choices influenced the city, adding new context to the main campaign."

Benny also plays quite differently. Gone is Phyre's telekinesis, with Benny's custom made 9mm pistol taking its place. Gunplay is the name of the game this time around, though he can also use melee weapons, which includes anything he can pick up. These all apparently have different play styles, but he can also fight unarmed too. Benny also does not have Phyre's glide. Instead he has Soaring Leap, which basically lets him jump real high, with an air dash ability for some added mid-jump maneuverability. There's also a few other abilities he can pick up, like one that essentially allows for bullet time style combat.

Beyond that, there's also a free update coming the same day that brings in an updated save feature, Fabien fast travel, and melee combat improvements. A summer update is also planned, which will introduce a photo mode, noir mode, and range combat improvements. Lots to come it seems! Time will tell if it all manages to turn that difficult launch around.
