The activities of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will be popularised more, Minister for Culture P.C. Vishnunadh has said.

The Minister who visited the academy on Saturday said a new exhibition hall on the second floor of the academy building would be named after director and former academy chairman Shaji N. Karun.

The Minister also visited the academy headquarters built in memory of actor Sathyan at the Kinfra Film and Video Park, Kazhakuttam, and the Centre for International Film Research and Archives.

The academy was one of the institutions in the country that was doing well, the Minister said. The academy had a good team that worked continuously. There was no uncertainty about the academy’s everyday activities. These were being taken up in a time-bound manner according to the academy calendar, the Minister said.

Selection of entries received for the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala was on. Entries had been invited for the International Film Festical of Kerala, which would be held in Thiruvananthapuram from December 11 to 18, the Minister said.

A jury for deciding the Kerala State Film Awards for 2025 would be formed so that screenings could begin without delay. Presentation of Kerala State Television Awards for 2024 and 2025 at a single function was under consideration, Mr. Vishnunadh said.

Steps for taking over land for the J.C. Daniel Film City in Kochi were about to enter the final phase, the Minister said, expressing hope that once the land was acquired, work related to the film city could begin before the government completed 100 days.
