WWE SummerSlam 2026 kicked off on Saturday with a newsworthy show, and its ramifications will extend beyond SummerSlam Sunday.
On Night One of WWE’s two-night PLE, CM Punk successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Cody Rhodes thanks to the return of Randy Orton, and Oba Femi slayed Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell in a true passing of the torch moment. This Sunday inside U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis once again, WWE will host six more marquee matches that will have substantial effects on WWE’s future creative direction.

The winner of Balor vs. Zayn becomes the No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship, which Punk successfully defended on SummerSlam Saturday. Similarly, the winner of the women’s ladder match will go on to face WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, who’s currently injured, for the title down the road.

WWE SummerSlam 2026 Predictions For Sunday
World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) Vs. Seth Rollins
Much like the Punk vs. Rhodes match, WWE took an incredibly complicated and convoluted path to get to Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins at WWE SummerSlam.
All WWE had to do was have Rollins win King of the Ring instead, and this would have made a ton more sense. Instead, WWE had Oba Femi shockingly delay (or perhaps even forfeit) his guaranteed world title match, so Rollins vs. Reigns feels like a bit of a letdown even if WWE is acting as if this is some sort of monumental match.
In reality, it’s not. Rollins vs. Reigns has been done many times before, and WWE is pushing the story that Reigns can’t beat Rollins one-on-one. That’s telegraphing the ending, which is almost assuredly Reigns beating Rollins, perhaps decisively but likely with help from The Bloodline, who lost on SummerSlam Saturday.
Prediction: Reigns
No. 1 Contender’s Match: Finn Balor (c) Vs. Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn recently held the WWE Championship for just nine days, and yet, his pursuit of the title is far from over.
As Zayn remains in the WWE title orbit, he’s just one win away from getting another crack it. At SummerSlam, he will face SmackDown newcomer Finn Balor, who is undefeated since moving to the blue brand, where he’s been receiving a new push near the top of the card.
Although Balor is sizzling hot these days, it’s difficult not to believe that his sudden push has been a setup just to give Zayn a popular babyface to beat. Zayn should win at SummerSlam and then reignite his feud with Punk in what could be a great WWE Championship rivalry.
Prediction: Zayn
WWE United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) Vs. Baron Corbin
Baron Corbin recently made his triumphant return to WWE and has instantly been positioned as a major threat in the upper midcard.
Given the way Corbin was pushed during his previous tenure (it was very up-and-down), there’s no telling how long his current push will actually last. Still, Corbin has come back fresh and on top of his game, and if WWE fans are going to take him more seriously this time around, he essentially has to win at SummerSlam.
Trick Williams is one of WWE’s hottest acts right now, and truth be told, he’s already ready to be above the US title level. A controversial loss to Corbin at SummerSlam may actually be a blessing in disguise.

Intercontinental Championship: Penta (c) Vs. Chad Gable
After an incredible run as Original El Grande Americano in AAA, Chad Gable is on the verge of becoming WWE’s next main event star. The Intercontinental Championship is, of course, a nice stepping stone to main event status.
Penta has been exceptional as Intercontinental Champion on Raw, where he’s helped elevate that title as a defending champion. However, Gable is the hotter hand at the moment, and WWE would be remiss to miss out on an opportunity to elevate him up the card.
Given that Gable is from Minnesota, SummerSlam 2026 is the perfect time and place to crown him the new Intercontinental Champion.

Five-Way Ladder Match For The Interim WWE Women’s Championship: Chelsea Green Vs. Charlotte Flair Vs. Jade Cargill Vs. Lash Legend Vs. Tiffany Stratton
WWE is doing something it rarely does here and is crowning an interim champion while Rhea Ripley recovers from a knee injury.
The fact that WWE isn’t simply stripping Ripley of the title suggests that the company wants to keep Ripley as champion long-term. What that also implies is that whoever wins the interim championship in the star-studded SummerSlam ladder match will likely be an established star.
Anyone in the bout would make a formidable champion, but given Flair’s lengthy history with Ripley, that is the most high-profile unification bout WWE could possibly do down the road. With WWE announcing Cargill vs. Flair for this week’s SmackDown episode, it makes even more sense to have Flair hold the Interim WWE Women’s Championship to make that dream match for the title.

Human Monies On A Pole Match: Danhausen vs. Dominik Mysterio
Danhausen, WWE’s comedy extraordinaire, picked up a big victory over Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Beating Dominik Mysterio, however, would seemingly be a bigger challenge, and the recent addition of the “Human Monies on a Pole” stipulation will surely send this bout into comedy chaos.
McDonagh is typically the fall guy for his stable, and given that SNME took place in New York City, where Danhausen is widely beloved, he never stood a chance. Mysterio is much higher up on WWE’s pecking order, though, and while Danhausen is wildly popular, that popularity doesn’t mean he will be dominant in the ring.
Much like R-Truth, Danhausen can lose often and still be well-liked by WWE fans. He should lose at WWE SummerSlam too, with Mysterio getting some revenge thanks to an assist from his fellow stablemates.
