Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar on Sunday launched the sale of fine-quality rice at subsidised prices through 130 Rythu Bazaars and 500 rice mills across Andhra Pradesh.

The BPT super fine variety is being sold at ₹52 per kg and BPT raw rice at ₹50 per kg.

Launching the initiative in association with the State Rice Millers’ Association (SRMA) at the APIIC Rythu Bazaar here, Mr. Manohar said the scheme reflected the coalition government’s commitment to providing quality essential commodities at affordable prices to consumers facing rising inflation.

He said each consumer would be eligible to purchase up to 10 kg of rice after Aadhaar verification. The government decided to offer the rice at discounted prices following a review of the inflationary burden on households, he added.

Mr. Manohar said BPT super fine rice was currently retailing in the open market at ₹62 to ₹65 per kg, while BPT raw rice was priced between ₹58 and ₹60 per kg. The State government was also in discussions with the Centre to make red gram (tur dal) and palm oil available to consumers at lower prices in the future, he added.

Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao, Civil Supplies Department Director Nupur Ajay Kumar, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha and State Rice Millers’ Association president Gummadi Venkateswara Rao were among those present.
