Fuel prices to roll back after 2 weeks of increases

MANILA, Philippines — Diesel and gasoline prices will fall by less than P1 per liter this week after two straight weeks of increases, while kerosene will become cheaper by more than P2 per liter.

The Department of Energy announced the following price adjustments Monday, Aug. 3:

• Diesel– down by P0.60 per liter
• Kerosene– down by P2.09 per liter
• Gasoline– down by P0.73 per liter

The agency attributed the adjustments to developments arising from the conflict in West Asia.

LPG. Meanwhile, liquefied petroleum gas went up by P3.67 per kilogram, translating into P40.38 increase per 11-kilogram gas cylinder. 

Fare hike petitions

The previous two weeks of fuel price increases has pushed transport groups to press the government for higher fares.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board met earlier Monday with representatives of seven transport groups, including those representing jeepneys, UV Express vehicles, taxis and motorcycle taxis, to discuss their fare hike petitions.

The LTFRB has not publicly announced the outcome of the meeting as of Monday afternoon.

Manibela chairperson Mar Valbuena said after the hearing that the group's request for a provisional fare increase remained unresolved.

"Our request for a provisional fare increase still cannot be answered because Malacañang is still making the decision," Valbuena said in Filipino.

Manibela also announced a three-day transport strike from August 10 to 12.
