Author Ashwin Sanghi has won the inaugural JSW Prize in Literature at Bhutan Echoes: Drukyul’s Literature and Arts Festival, held at the Royal University of Bhutan in Thimphu.

The Prize was instituted in 2025 to mark the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan’s Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, to celebrate exceptional contributions to literature and the arts. The selection committee recognised Sanghi’s works which “weaves together history, mythology, philosophy and civilisational memory into compelling narratives, and his ability to make complex ideas accessible to a broad readership across generations and borders.”

Sanghi donated the cash prize of Rs 5 lakh to a Bhutanese organisation that does social and community development work across the kingdom.
