The head of state made this announcement during a meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“To give him more opportunities to address these specific issues simultaneously—including diplomacy, defense, negotiations with the U.S. and other designated partners, as well as talks on ending the war—Umerov will be appointed head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service,” the President said.

Zelensky noted that Umerov will continue to coordinate the work of the Drone Deal initiative.

The President appealed to the countries already involved in this initiative, as well as to those interested in participating, urging them to support Umerov’s work in his new position.

The head of state emphasized that clear coordination with the governments of partner countries is needed at the embassy level so that they understand the contribution Ukraine can make to strengthening their defense, intelligence capabilities, border security, and the resilience of critical infrastructure.

As reported by Ukrinform, Umerov currently serves as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), a position to which he was appointed in July 2025.

At the same time, the President plans to appoint Ihor Klymenko, who previously headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to the post of NSDC Secretary.
