A goat was injured in a suspected leopard attack at Easaparai near Anthiyur, adding to fears among residents who have been reporting leopard movement in the area.
The incident occurred late on Sunday night at the farm of Saravanan, a resident of Chettiyar Thottam. A wild animal is suspected to have entered the farm and attacked a tethered goat.
Hearing the goat’s cries and dogs barking, Saravanan came out of his house, following which the animal fled. The goat sustained bleeding injuries to its neck. Forest Department personnel inspected the injured goat and examined the pugmarks found at the site.
Based on the preliminary assessment, officials said the animal involved could be a leopard.
Residents have been complaining of leopard movement in and around Easaparai in recent weeks. Acting on the complaints, the department had installed camera traps and placed a cage near the Murugan temple to monitor the animal and to capture it. The latest incident has heightened concern among residents, who have urged the department to intensify surveillance and prevent such attacks.
