The expansion of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s Cabinet on Monday has given the Kalyana Karnataka region seven berths in the Council of Ministers, with the induction of Jewargi MLA Ajay Singh taking Kalaburagi district’s representation to three.

Besides Dr. Singh, Kalaburagi district has two other Ministers- Priyank Kharge from Chittapur and Sharan Prakash Patil from Sedam. Eshwar B. Khandre from Bhalki in Bidar district has retained his Cabinet berth.

Koppal has got two Cabinet berths, including Basavaraj Rayaraddi from Yelburga, who entered the Cabinet in the latest expansion, and Shivaraj Tangadagi from Kanakagiri, who retained his position.

While B. Nagendra from Ballari Rural, who had resigned from the previous Siddaramaiah Cabinet following allegations of misappropriation of funds in the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation, has also found a place in Mr. Shivakumar’s Cabinet.

However, the region’s share in the Council of Ministers has declined from eight berths in the previous Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet to seven in the present Cabinet.

The omission of senior Congress leaders from Raichur and Yadgir in the Cabinet expansion has left both districts without representation in the Council of Ministers. Among those who missed out are former Ministers N.S. Boseraju of Raichur, Sharanabasappa Darshanapur of Yadgir and also Rahim Khan from Bidar, all of whom had served in the previous Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet.
