Michigan health officials just reported the first two deaths from the state’s ongoing outbreak of the explosive diarrhea-causing foodborne illness cyclosporiasis.

The deaths are the first in the U.S., according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.

Cases in Michigan and eight other states have been tied to contaminated lettuce.
