A Mangaluru district court upheld the action of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Law and Order) issuing a show-cause notice to Prasad Attavar, chief of Ram Sene, a right wing group, asking him why he should not execute a personal bond of ₹1 lakh to maintain public peace.

Based on a report filed by the Sub-Inspector of the Kankanady police station, DCP (Law and Order) H.N. Mithun, exercising his powers as Special Executive Magistrate, issued a notice to Mr. Attavar on July 8. He was asked to appear before the DCP on August 11 at 11 a.m. and show cause as to why he should not execute a personal bond. Mr. Attavar filed a criminal revision petition before the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court, Mangaluru, challenging the issuance of the notice.

Turning down the petition, the judge, Monday, said it was not sustainable from any angle. There was no irregularity, illegality, or arbitrariness in the proceedings initiated by the DCP. The order passed by the official was according to law. Mr. Attavar has to appear before the DCP and file his written explanation as to why he should not be asked to execute the personal bond, the judge observed.
