A light plane has crashed in rural Canterbury, but the pilot has escaped unhurt.

Fire and Emergency says the plane came down on Station Road near Kirwee just after 10am on Tuesday.

Three fire crews from Kirwee, Burnham and Rakaia attended the crash.

FENZ said the pilot managed to get out of the plane without help.
