As part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday conducted a massive cleanliness drive on Chikka Veeranna Road (C.V. Road) under its ‘Swatantryotsava Swachhata Abhiyana-2026: 80 Garbage-Free Spots’ campaign.

The drive was led by Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy and MCC Commissioner Savita M.K., in the presence of Additional Commissioner Veena, senior civic officials, engineers, health inspectors, sanitation workers, local residents and office-bearers of the C.V. Road Residents’ Association.

During the drive, civic workers removed around 83 tonnes of waste, including mixed garbage, plastic waste, construction debris, scrap metal and other refuse that had been illegally dumped along both sides of the road over a prolonged period.

The clean-up operation involved five backhoe loaders, 10 tipper trucks and five dozers. Encroachments on public spaces and road margins were also cleared to improve traffic flow and restore the area’s cleanliness.

Shop owners, scrap dealers, metal fabrication units and other commercial establishments were instructed not to dump waste on roadsides or in public places. They were also advised to segregate waste generated from their businesses and dispose of it scientifically in accordance with MCC guidelines.

Officials warned that strict penalties and legal action would be initiated against those found dumping waste illegally or encroaching on public spaces in future.

The MCC has directed zonal officials to maintain constant surveillance to prevent fresh dumping in the cleaned-up stretch. Residents and traders have also been urged to cooperate with the Corporation in maintaining cleanliness.

The drive, organised under the slogan “Clean C.V. Road – Healthy Mysuru,” concluded with active participation from civic officials, sanitation workers, residents and community organisations.
