Anime series Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World is almost back with the continuation of its fourth season, and Kadokawa just released a new trailer teasing what to expect in the upcoming “Recapture Arc.” The trailer showcases Subaru’s continued attempts to fix a time-looping nightmare as he weathers his not-so-idyllic reincarnation.
Re:Zero’s fourth season began on April 8, running for an initial 11 episodes through June 17. Its most recent season has been the show’s best-received yet, racking up an impressive 9.15 score on the user-rating platform MyAnimeList. That puts it as the second-highest-rated anime of all time, behind only the first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
Season 4’s most recent episode, “Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World,” debuted with a perfect 10/10 rating on IMDb after 23,000 reviews, temporarily making it the highest-rated TV series episode of all time. While the episode has dipped slightly to 9.9 after 71,000 reviews, it’s fair to say there's a lot of hype for the rest of the latest season.
The final eight episodes of Re:Zero's fourth season will begin airing on Aug. 12, marking a nine-week gap between the fourth season’s first and second cours. It is expected to adapt up to the light novel’s 25th volume (out of more than 45 volumes and counting). The series began as a web novel on the self-publishing platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō before gaining traction and eventually being published by Media Factory in Japan and Yen Press in North America.
The anime adaptation began in 2016 and has run for 77 episodes. The show centers on Subaru Natsuki, a NEET who is summoned to a fantasy world where he learns he has the power to turn back time after his death, an ability that proves both a gift and a curse. The series has been praised for its fleshed-out characters, thought-provoking themes, and fresh takes on isekai storytelling.
