Burglars decamped with 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects, and ₹1.6 lakh cash from the house of a government doctor at Sathuvachari near the Collector office on Chennai - Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) in Vellore.
The police said that the single-storey house was occupied by M. Ambika, 70, on the ground floor. The first floor of the house was rented to Balaji, a tenant. Ambika went to meet her son Purusothaman in Chengalpattu when she got a call from Balaji that the main door of the house was broken.
She returned and noticed that her valuables were stolen. The family alerted Sathuvachari police, who reached the house with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken and the police have also taken CCTV camera footage along the route where the house is located. Superintendent of Police (SP) N.U. Sivaraman has formed special teams to nab the culprits.
