It isn’t quite in the same blockbuster tier as The Conjuring movies, but the Insidious franchiseâanother series with James Wan and Patrick Wilson rootsâhas been making money hand over fist since 2010. Wilson made his feature directorial debut with 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, which he also starred in; it became the highest-grossing Insidious movie to date.

The next installment, Insidious: Out of the Further, branches out into a new chapter, though Lin Shaye’s Elise Rainer, who’s been in every Insidious movie despite dying in the original film, will once again appear. The Haunting of Bly Manor‘s Amelia Eve plays the main character, a woman with a very spooky and potentially apocalyptic problem.

A final trailer is here, teasing more jump scares and otherworldly frights:

“In Insidious: Out of the Further, Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in who discovers she can travel into the Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe,” reads the official synopsis. “When something evil comes after her, Gemma discovers an ability that changes everything: she doesnât just enter the Further, she can bring what lives there back to the real world. Once the demons realize her power, our world becomes their playground.”

The stakes are higher than ever now that those Further ghouls have discovered a way into the human world, and from the looks of that trailer, Out of the Further will be somewhat stripped downâfocusing mostly on Amelia’s spiraling terror as she realizes her unwelcome power. Good thing Elise is on the other side helping her navigate and passing on wisdom like “When the dead rise, it’ll be the end of the living.”

Written and directed by Jacob Chase, Insidious: Out of the Further arrives August 21. Will you be tiptoeing through the tulips to see it?
