Japan’s industry ministry has called on suppliers of liquefied petroleum gas across the country to inspect equipment at shopping centers, schools and other large facilities, after reporting that leaked gas was “highly likely” to have caused the explosion at Aeon Mall Kumamoto that killed seven people following last week’s powerful earthquake.

The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry issued the request Wednesday after examining the damaged mall in the town of Kashima, Kumamoto Prefecture, and interviewing people involved alongside police and fire department authorities.

The ministry has also asked suppliers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to check steps that must be taken to ensure safety after an earthquake, and to raise awareness on measures people should take if they suspect a gas leak.
