The process of self-enumeration under Phase I of Census 2027, which began on July 17, has received data from over 9,000 households in Madurai district so far, said Chief Principal Census Officer, Directorate of Census Operations, Tamil Nadu, M. Sundaresh Babu.
While addressing the media, in the presence of Madurai Collector Nishanth Krishna here on Wednesday, Mr. Sundaresh Babu said that a 15-day window has been provided for the people to carry out self-enumeration till July 31.
They need to access the portal https://se.census.gov.in
People need to provide the details of head of the household, mobile number and select a language. Once registered/selected, these three inputs cannot be changed by the user.
Registration can be done by entering a one-time password. People need to provide basic details like district, PIN, village/town, locality and nearby landmark. They can also locate their residence on the digital map using a red marker.
Later, they need to answer 33 questions pertaining to details of the house, like ownership, number of rooms, persons living in the house, and facilities like drinking water, source of water, lighting, access to latrine and waste water outlet.
They should also furnish the details about the availability of cooking gas, radio, television set, internet, laptop/computer, telephone, mobile phone.
People need to give details about possession of bicycles, scooter, motorcycle, moped, car, jeep and van.
People can preview and review the data given after every stage. However, once the data is saved and final submission made, people cannot change it.
When final submission is made a 11-digit self enumeration ID would be generated.
People need to share this ID with the enumerator when they visit their house. Enumerators would verify the data given through self-enumeration and also make correction, if any. A total of 28 charges (in-charge officers) have been appointed to carry out the enumeration in Madurai district.
The district has been divided into 3,080 houselist blocks in rural, municipal and town panchayat areas and 2,117 HLBs in Madurai Corporation.
A total of 5116 eumerators, 888 supervisors would carry out the process within one month.
The data would remain secured. People need not fear that their personal details would be used for or against providing any assistance to them by Government departments, Mr. Sundaresh added.
It would be used for planning developmental works and schemes, he added.
