The Karnataka Transport Department continued its enforcement drive against illegal bike taxi operations in Bengaluru on Thursday (August 6), booking 71 two-wheelers and seizing 70 vehicles during a city-wide inspection.

According to official data from the department, enforcement teams inspected 220 two-wheelers across various Regional Transport Office (RTO) jurisdictions on August 6. The operation targeted vehicles registered under the non-transport category for private use but found to be operating commercially in violation of transport regulations.

The highest number of violations was detected in Bengaluru East RTO, where 57 vehicles were inspected, 19 cases were booked, and 19 vehicles seized. Bengaluru Central followed with 10 vehicles seized, while Electronic City recorded 11 cases booked and 10 vehicles seized. Chandapura, K.R. Puram, Yelahanka, Devanahalli, Jnanabharathi, South and North RTOs also reported enforcement action.

The latest crackdown comes after Transport Department officials held discussions with the Karnataka App-Based Workers Union (KAWU) recently. The meeting was convened after the union warned that it would launch a strike if authorities failed to curb illegal bike taxi operations in the city.
