PFF supports greater FIFA investment in developing football nations

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has thrown its support behind FIFA President Gianni Infantino amid the governing body’s recent controversy over the now-withdrawn FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), while reiterating its call for greater financial and technical assistance for developing football nations.

The statement comes after FIFA shelved the proposed FFE following strong opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and several member associations. The proposal sought to establish a new commercial entity that would oversee FIFA’s commercial rights and attract private investment to generate billions of dollars in additional funding for football development. However, critics questioned the lack of transparency and consultation, prompting FIFA to withdraw the plan and pledge a review of its governance process.

PFF backs FIFA

Amidst the controversy, the PFF said it remains supportive of the vision behind the proposal, noting that developing football nations stand to benefit from increased commercial revenues and financial assistance.

“The Philippine Football Federation believes developing football nations need stronger financial and technical support, and we welcome any serious effort to provide it,” the federation said in a statement.

The PFF also acknowledged the concerns raised by UEFA, CONCACAF, the AFC, and other FIFA Member Associations, saying proposals with major structural and financial implications should undergo an open and democratic consultation process.

“Broad consultation across all confederations and Member Associations protects transparency and helps everyone reach a shared, well-informed decision,” the federation added.

Even though the FFE proposal will no longer move forward, the PFF maintained that its core objective remains worth pursuing. The federation said Infantino’s vision of expanding commercial opportunities and financial assistance for all 211 FIFA Member Associations, particularly smaller football markets like the Philippines, could help accelerate the sport’s growth worldwide.

The federation also reaffirmed its confidence in Infantino’s leadership despite the recent turmoil surrounding FIFA, expressing optimism that continued dialogue among confederations and member associations would help strengthen the global game.

“PFF values its strong relationship with FIFA and its fellow Member Associations, and looks forward to working with the wider football community to turn this shared goal of stronger support for developing nations into reality,” the statement read.
