The Vadakara Special Court (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act Cases) on Thursday (August 6) granted police custody of K.C. Keerthana, a former teacher with the Perambra Block Resource Centre (BRC) and one of the five accused in the alleged MDMA case. Special investigation team members said she would remain in police custody until 5 p.m. on Friday (August 7).

The prosecution argued that the accused had direct links with the alleged drug syndicate and sought her custody to facilitate further investigation, gather evidence, and identify others involved in the case.

Opposing the plea, the defence contended that conducting bank transactions was not an offence and maintained that the financial transaction in question amounted to only ₹5,000.

After hearing both sides, the court allowed the prosecution’s request and granted police custody of the accused. Police sources said the bank transactions that she carried out for suspected drug traffickers would be verified again with the newly accessed digital evidence.

Meanwhile, the accused claimed that she had no connection with drug traffickers and that the investigation team’s claims were false. She also said that there were no suspicious financial transactions in her bank accounts.

K.C. Keerthana, K. Kavya, and V.P. Neeshma were the three special educators recently arrested for allegedly functioning as financial intermediaries for inter-State drug traffickers. Their alleged role was uncovered following the arrest of Safwan, the first accused in the case, from Vadakara. Jijin Kuriakose, an online delivery worker from Iritty, accused of colluding with the rural drug network, was also arrested recently as part of the investigation.
