With the participation of more than 30 textile and apparel manufacturers, signing of MoUs, and the support of two Ministries, Tamil Nadu made a significant participation at Bharat Tex 2026 that concluded in New Delhi recently.
The fair attracted about 6,000 overseas buyers and a large number of domestic visitors. “The fair will certainly transform into an international event in the coming years. For the garment manufacturers who participated from Tiruppur, the response from overseas buyers is promising and will turn into orders,” said K.M. Subramanian, president of the Tiruppur Exporters Association.
The Southern India Textile Research Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Woolmark Company for a research project to promote use of wool as a blend with cotton.
In a State that has started exploring opportunities in fibres other than cotton, this is expected to open up new avenues.
Minister for Industries P. Keerthana and Minister for Textiles and Handlooms M. Vijay Balaji participated in the fair and held discussions with several potential investors.
The State has already got investors for almost 300 acres out of the 600-odd acres at the PM MITRA textile park in Virudhunagar. A couple of major investments will also be finalised shortly for the State, said an official with the Industries Department.
The Tamil Nadu government is focusing on technical textiles and investors will get almost 50% capital subsidy for investments in this segment. The State has just 8% share in technical textiles and is keen on developing this sector, said the official.
The Tamil Nadu pavilion attracted more than 400 visitors, and Principal Secretary for Textiles and Handlooms T.N. Venkatesh made a presentation on the textile value chain at the Tamil Nadu session.
“Overall, the participation of the Government of Tamil Nadu in Bharat Tex 2026 significantly enhanced the State’s visibility among national and international stakeholders, strengthened industry connect, showcased Tamil Nadu’s investment potential and traditional handloom excellence, and created opportunities for future partnerships and investments in the textile and technical textile sectors,” said Mr. Venkatesh.
